Young Man Admits Guilt in Illegal Zombie Knife Trade Targeting Minors

A 20-year-old man has admitted to importing and selling illegal zombie knives, including to minors, following a detailed investigation by the Metropolitan Police. Jonathan Soares, residing in Lambeth, was arrested in June amid a fraud inquiry, which ultimately led detectives to uncover a much larger criminal operation.

During the investigation, police seized 650 of the dangerous weapons before they could hit the streets. Soares’ activities came to light when officers examined over 2.5 million files on his devices, revealing his extensive dealings in illegal arms and other criminal activities, including plans to manufacture firearms.

Criminal Network Exposed

Detective Chief Inspector Imran Beg, who spearheaded the investigation, emphasized that Soares was not only a seller but also actively sought feedback from his buyers, showing a blatant disregard for the violence associated with these weapons. Soares was reportedly using fraudulent activities to fund his operations and was observed discussing ways to exploit market gaps for profit, particularly in weapon sales.

Wider Implications and Ongoing Investigations

The investigation revealed alarming statistics, with one in ten serious violent incidents involving individuals under 25 in London this year linked to zombie knives. As authorities continue to disrupt organized crime, Soares’ case highlights the ongoing challenge of illegal weapon sales, especially to vulnerable populations like children. His accomplice, Rayhan Rahman, 18, has also pleaded guilty to related charges and is awaiting sentencing.
