Zack Polanski to Contest Holborn and St Pancras By-Election Following Starmer's Resignation

By Editor • September 3, 2026 • 1 min read

Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party, has declared his intention to run in the upcoming Holborn and St Pancras by-election, a seat previously held by former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Polanski expressed his deep connection to the community, stating, “I have lived and worked in this community over many years, I know it well and I love it.”

Starmer announced his resignation earlier this week, indicating it was time to shift his focus towards international affairs. He had served as an MP for 11 years, stepping down after losing support within his party due to recent controversies and disappointing local election outcomes.

The Green Party is poised to emerge as Labour’s primary challenger in the upcoming election. Despite Labour’s long-standing dominance in the constituency since its inception in 1983, recent election results suggest a shift. In 2024, Starmer saw his share of the vote drop to 48.9% from 64.5% in 2019, while independent candidate Andrew Feinstein and Polanski’s Greens gained significant support.

Polanski criticized the Labour Party for prioritizing corporate interests over the needs of everyday people, asserting, “I will stand up for people struggling to pay their bills.” The Green Party’s recent successes in Camden’s local elections further bolster their hopes for a strong performance in Holborn and St Pancras.
