Innovative Vancouver Home Redefines the Seamless Blend of Indoor and Outdoor Living

A striking new addition in Vancouver reimagines the traditional boundaries between house and garden, creating a harmonious blend of nature and architecture. The project, led by Evoke International Design, features floor-to-ceiling glazing set flush with the ground, allowing the interior spaces to flow effortlessly into the surrounding landscape of a historic Shaughnessy estate.

The construction, carried out in collaboration with Linden Construction, required meticulous engineering to achieve a seamless transition. A sloped bluestone terrace and integrated drainage systems ensure rainwater flows away from the structure, enhancing the visual connection to the garden.

Dark metal frames contrast beautifully with the historical context of the adjacent 1912 home, designed by Thomas Hooper. The contemporary design maintains a dialogue with its surroundings while using a neutral palette of soft whites and warm grays inside, allowing the vibrant garden to take center stage.

Landscape architect Tasha Sangha crafted an outdoor composition that enriches the indoor experience. Mature trees and pastel plantings create a lush backdrop, while carefully placed lighting ensures the serene garden remains a part of the home’s ambiance even after sunset.
