Artistic Tribute: Radhika Chitalia Breathes Life into Her Father’s Passport

Copenhagen-based illustrator Radhika Chitalia has turned her late father’s expired passport into a poignant tribute, blending grief and creativity. Instead of discarding the document, Chitalia began painting over its pages with gouache, transforming visas and immigration stamps into a vibrant canvas that honors her father’s passion for travel.

Chitalia reflects on her father’s dreams of exploring the world with her mother, dreams that were cut short by his passing. The passport, filled with memories yet untouched by new adventures, became a personal time capsule. “What started spontaneously became a way of exploring grief, memory, and the journeys that never happened,” she shares.

Through her art, Chitalia not only preserves her father’s legacy but also reimagines it, layering stories onto the worn pages of the passport. She continues this creative process with other documents belonging to her father, sharing her artistic journey with followers on Instagram and showcasing her work on Behance.
