Google Pioneers Geothermal Energy Development in Taiwan

In a groundbreaking move, Google has signed its first geothermal energy purchase agreement in Taiwan, marking a significant milestone for both the tech giant and the region. This deal, established with international developer Baseload Capital, is also Taiwan's inaugural geothermal power purchase agreement.

The agreement aims to introduce 10 megawatts of carbon-free energy to Taiwan's power grid by 2029, effectively doubling the nation’s current geothermal capacity. This initiative aligns with Google’s overarching commitment to halve its carbon emissions and achieve 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030.

Google plans to utilize this renewable energy to power its various facilities in Asia, including a major data center and its largest hardware R&D hub outside the United States. Additionally, the company will invest in Baseload Capital as part of a long-term partnership to support the development of geothermal energy projects.
