Jair Bolsonaro, the former president of Brazil, was rushed to the hospital on Friday due to severe abdominal pain linked to a stabbing injury from 2018. The incident occurred while he was campaigning in Santa Cruz, Rio Grande do Norte.
The 70-year-old Bolsonaro experienced intense discomfort during his political tour, prompting an immediate referral to a local hospital. After being stabilized by medical personnel, he was transferred by helicopter to Hospital Rio Grande in Natal.
Senator Rogério Marinho, a member of Bolsonaro's Liberal Party, confirmed via social media that the campaign agenda was suspended due to the ex-president's condition. Upon arrival at the hospital, Bolsonaro was calm and alert, though he had shown signs of distress earlier.
Reports indicate that Bolsonaro had been suffering from intestinal obstruction in the days leading up to this event. His party expressed deep concern over his health, noting that the abdominal pain was a consequence of the stabbing he endured during his 2018 campaign.
Currently, Bolsonaro is barred from running in elections until 2030 due to his unfounded claims about electoral system integrity. He is also facing charges related to an alleged coup attempt following the 2022 elections. Despite these challenges, Bolsonaro maintains his innocence and aspirations for the 2026 presidential race.
