Trump Administration's New Policy Targets Immigrants with Grave Consequences

The Trump administration has ignited controversy by placing over 6,000 immigrants, primarily Latinos, into a death database, stripping them of their ability to work legally in the U.S. or access social benefits.

This directive from Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem aims to pressure undocumented immigrants into leaving the country, as reported by The Washington Post.

Two memoranda signed recently empower the Social Security Administration to list migrants in the death file for national security reasons. Those affected include individuals who lost their legal status or entered the U.S. under previous Biden-era programs that have since lapsed.

Additionally, the government plans to add 92,000 migrants with criminal convictions to this list. White House spokesperson Elizabeth Huston stated, "By removing financial incentives for undocumented immigrants, we hope to encourage self-deportation." However, concerns have been raised regarding the legality of this practice, as some Social Security officials believe it infringes on privacy laws.
