A Culinary Concert at Taste Stellenbosch's Kickoff Dinner

The Vine Bistro at Glenelly Estate recently transformed into a stage for culinary excellence as a group of Stellenbosch's finest chefs showcased their talents at the Taste Stellenbosch kickstarter dinner. This year’s event, dubbed The Pop-Stars, exceeded the high standards set by last year's Rockstars, delivering a gastronomic experience that felt like a grand performance.

Led by Garth Bedford, the culinary supergroup included talents such as Brendan Thorncroft from The Table at De Meye and Cornelle Minie from Middelvlei. They did more than cook; they orchestrated a symphony of flavors that captivated guests from the very first bite.

The evening commenced with a stunning array of canapés, including Klein River Gruyère gougères and a nostalgic battered hake, each dish setting a vibrant tone for the night. As the opening act transitioned, the middle movement featured comforting bread paired with rich starters, such as smoked snoek pâté and an unforgettable Dexter beef tartare, which brought a satisfying crescendo to the meal.

For the main course, served family-style, the star was undoubtedly the 15-hour braised Karoo lamb shoulder, tender and bursting with flavor. Accompanying this was a selection of vibrant vegetables and a contrasting salmon trout dish, all contributing to an unforgettable dining experience.

Despite feeling full, guests were treated to an impressive dessert finale, featuring a light olive oil cake and a dark chocolate tart that showcased bold flavors and playful elements. As the evening concluded, attendees left not only satisfied but also in awe of Stellenbosch’s culinary prowess.
