A House That Turns Exercise into Energy

In a groundbreaking design, the Staircase House invites residents to engage in physical activity while powering their home. This innovative concept features 180 wooden steps that encircle a 1,000 sq ft cube, transforming the building into an exercise facility that generates energy.
Each step is equipped with a piezoelectric tread plate, capturing the energy produced by footsteps and storing it in onsite batteries. While the amount of energy harvested per step is modest, the cumulative effect of numerous trips up and down can significantly contribute to the house's power supply.
The design includes an open rooftop deck with benches and storage, while four wooden decks create outdoor spaces on both the ground level and the roof. Large sliding glass doors enhance natural ventilation, and a central skylight brings daylight into the interior.
Functionality is key, with practical areas like an office and kitchen integrated beneath the staircases, while furniture echoes the climbing theme throughout the house. Made entirely from sustainably sourced wood, the Staircase House redefines living spaces, merging sustainability with an active lifestyle.
