Adelaide Unveils Controversial MotoGP Circuit Design

The South Australian government has announced the design for a new 4.13-kilometre street circuit, set to host the MotoGP starting in November 2027. The project, costing $96 million, will necessitate the removal of nearly 400 trees from Adelaide's eastern parklands.

Premier Peter Malinauskas stated that for every tree removed, ten would be planted, totaling 3,770 new trees. This plan includes the felling of 42 significant trees and 335 others deemed invasive or in poor health, along with the relocation of 88 trees.

The circuit will also be used for the Tour Down Under beginning in January 2028. Despite previous protests, with over 43,000 signatures against the tree removals, Malinauskas emphasized the government’s commitment to investing in parklands.
