Cricketer's Dream: Wedding to Lord's in a Helicopter

By Editor • August 29, 2026 • 1 min read

A village cricketer is set to realize his lifelong dream of playing at Lord’s Cricket Ground, all while navigating the challenges of tying the knot. Peter Melhuish, who plays for Blackheath Cricket Club in Guildford, has successfully raised over £6,000 to helicopter from his wedding in North Wales to the cricket final in London.

Scheduled to marry Izzy Upton on September 5, Melhuish initially faced the disappointment of missing the Cawston Press Village Cup final the following day. However, his club rallied support, including a generous £1,000 contribution from Piers Morgan, to help him achieve both dreams within 24 hours.

“For many a young cricketer, there are two great dreams,” the club stated, highlighting the rarity of achieving both a wedding and a final match so closely together. With the helicopter option, Melhuish will cut travel time down to about 90 minutes, a significant improvement over a 5 a.m. taxi ride.

Melhuish expressed gratitude for his fiancée’s understanding, noting that the wedding plans were already in motion before the match schedule was released. Any additional funds raised will benefit Kids for Kids, a charity close to the heart of Melhuish’s late mother.
