In an exciting new collaboration, Madrid's SIERRA+DELAHIGUERA (S+DLH) and Barcelona's VASTO Gallery unveil "Capsule 04 · Selected to live inside architecture." This exhibition challenges traditional boundaries between contemporary art and collectible design, showcasing a harmonious blend of objects and artworks within a shared architectural space.
Located on Calle Orellana, this exhibition marks the start of an ongoing partnership between S+DLH and VASTO, founded by Carmen Riestra. Rather than treating art as an afterthought, this initiative integrates various elements into the very fabric of residential and commercial spaces, suggesting a dialogue that goes beyond mere aesthetics.
The exhibition features three artists from VASTO: Pol Agustí, Max Milà Serra, and Esther Gatón. Agustí's works utilize clay and reclaimed materials, merging ritualistic elements with familiar forms. In contrast, Serra focuses on minimal structures that subtly alter their environments, while Gatón employs hand-dyed linen to explore variations in color and texture. Their diverse approaches contribute to a rich narrative within the exhibition.
In addition to these contemporary pieces, S+DLH showcases its own designs, some of which are making their public debut. These works are intentionally arranged to dissolve the strict categories of art and design, emphasizing a conversation among materials, scale, and proximity. For example, a lamp may take on the qualities of a sculpture, blurring the lines of conventional classification.
Ultimately, Capsule 04 invites visitors to reconsider the act of collecting as a means of creating layered environments where art and design coexist freely, creating interiors that feel organically assembled rather than merely styled.
