A Daughter's Tribute: Radhika Chitalia Transforms Her Father's Passport into Art

Copenhagen-based artist Radhika Chitalia has turned a personal relic into a vibrant canvas of memories following her father's passing. His expired passport, tucked away for years, became a source of inspiration rather than a forgotten memento.
Chitalia began painting over its pages with gouache, transforming visas and immigration stamps into an expressive tribute to her father's unfulfilled dreams of travel. “What started spontaneously became a way of exploring grief, memory, and the journeys that never happened,” she reflects.
This intimate project allows her to weave new narratives into the document, which serves as both a time capsule of his life and a celebration of their bond. The artist’s journey continues as she paints on other found documents of her father’s, sharing her evolving work with followers on Instagram.
