Australia Demands Justice After Israeli Decision Not to Prosecute Aid Worker’s Death

Australia's Foreign Minister Penny Wong expressed her outrage following Israel's decision to forgo prosecution in the case of Zomi Frankcom, an Australian aid worker killed in an airstrike in Gaza.
Frankcom, who worked for World Central Kitchen, lost her life along with six colleagues in April 2024. Wong criticized the decision as falling "far short of the accountability we expect," especially as it coincided with World Humanitarian Day.
Wong stated that the Australian government had only learned of this decision late Wednesday and plans to summon the Israeli ambassador to express its discontent. She emphasized that Australia would continue advocating for justice for Frankcom and her team.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) admitted that their strikes leading to the deaths were due to significant procedural failures. This incident resulted in not only Frankcom's death but also that of three British nationals, a Palestinian, a Pole, and a dual US-Canadian citizen.
In contrast, the IDF has initiated a criminal investigation regarding the death of a five-year-old Palestinian girl, Hind Rajab, who was killed in a separate incident during the conflict.
