Australia Pledges $5 Million for Nepal-Tibet Flood Relief Efforts

The Australian government is stepping up its humanitarian efforts in response to the catastrophic floods that have struck the Himalayas, announcing a $5 million aid package to support recovery operations.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong revealed that an additional four staff members will be deployed to Nepal within 24 hours, joining the existing 20 personnel already on the ground. A second team, equipped with expertise in logistics and humanitarian assistance, is expected to follow shortly.
In a recent interview with ABC Radio National Breakfast, Wong confirmed that the number of Australians missing in the disaster has increased from 35 to 39. There are currently 43 consular cases being managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Wong expressed concern that the number of missing Australians may continue to rise.
Wong emphasized the urgency of identifying the status of Australians in the affected area, stating, "We are urgently working to confirm the welfare of any Australians who are not accounted for." The funds will provide essential resources such as food, clean water, emergency shelter, sanitation, and medical support.
