Balochistan Militants Labeled Foreign Proxies by Pakistan Army Chief

During a recent gathering with political leaders in Rawalpindi, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir characterized the militants operating in Balochistan as "foreign-sponsored proxies." His comments, made on August 21, 2026, underscore ongoing concerns about the stability of the volatile province.
Munir emphasized that these groups, including the separatist Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), aim to destabilize the region and hinder its development, while also driving a wedge between the state and its citizens. He asserted that the future of Balochistan is intrinsically linked to the will of its people.
The BLA has intensified its campaign against security forces and government targets in recent years, with notable attacks resulting in significant casualties, such as the July assault that claimed 27 policemen's lives. Munir refrained from naming specific nations but accused hostile elements of manipulating local militants for their own agendas.
