Belgian Startup Any Unveils Modular Electric Motorcycle with Cargo Space in Mind

As urban centers in Europe grapple with mobility issues, Belgian startup Any is making waves with its innovative approach to electric two-wheelers. The company aims to redefine urban transport by introducing a solution that accommodates the real-life needs of city dwellers.

The centerpiece of Any’s vision is the LUV1, a modular electric motorcycle designed not just for speed but also for practicality. Capable of reaching speeds up to 100 km/h (62 mph), the LUV1 boasts a cargo capacity of 120 liters, resembling a cargo bike while providing the performance of a motorcycle. According to Any, this design was born from the desire to address everyday requirements—groceries, luggage, and other essentials that urban riders typically need.

Customers can choose between various configurations, including an open frame or one outfitted with panels for different uses, such as transporting pets or camping gear. The modular design, which includes options like windshields and racks, aims to cater to a wide range of users—from commuters to families and outdoor enthusiasts. The creative force behind this design is Lowie Vermeersch, a former director at Pininfarina, who now serves as the creative lead at Any.

With a starting price of €7,000 (approximately $8,150), the LUV1 is positioned as a more affordable alternative to traditional cars and premium electric cargo bikes. Furthermore, it requires only an A1 license, simplifying the process for potential riders. The startup’s preorder campaign has already seen over 600 reservations in just 100 days, reflecting the excitement generated during its debut at Milan Design Week.

Each reservation comes with a refundable fee of €49 ($57), which is credited towards the final purchase price. Any recently secured €2.75 million ($3.2 million) in funding, including €1.5 million raised in November and an additional €1.25 million in May, enabling the startup to expand its operations. The team has also brought on former VC Pieter Van de Velde as CEO and engineering expert Alessandro Mangano, who has a background with high-profile companies like Ferrari and Piaggio Group.

The LUV1 features two swappable batteries, allowing for a maximum range of 87 miles per charge. This specification positions it competitively in a market that is rapidly becoming dominated by electric models from established brands. Any believes that the additional cargo space will set the LUV1 apart in a landscape where a significant shift towards electric vehicles is anticipated by 2030.

As it prepares for production and seeks to ramp up deliveries, Any is eyeing a Series A funding round to raise around €10 million ($11.65 million) by year-end to support its growth ambitions. With plans to develop a portfolio of vehicles, Any is ready to take its next steps in the evolving landscape of urban transport.
