Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is setting its sights on the challenging Japanese auto market, introducing its compact Racco, meaning sea otter, in July.
Japan, known for its preference for small, efficient vehicles, presents a unique opportunity for BYD, as it aims to penetrate the kei jidosha segment.
With a length of just 3.4 meters, the Racco is designed to comply with Japan’s specific automotive regulations. Priced at ¥2,145,000 ($13,000), it competes against Nissan’s Sakura, which, despite its higher price tag, offers fewer features and a shorter range.
