Cannes Debut 'I'll Be Gone in June' Secures North American Distribution

KimStim has secured North American rights to Katharina Rivilis’ debut film, 'I’ll Be Gone in June,' which premiered at Cannes' Un Certain Regard. Set in the months following the September 11 attacks, this coming-of-age story unfolds in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and follows Franny, a 16-year-old German exchange student whose idealized American adventure is challenged by homesickness and the reality of high school life.

Her journey takes a turn when she forms a bond with Elliott, a local boy dealing with his own grief. Rivilis, who penned and directed the film, drew inspiration from her own experiences as an exchange student in New Mexico. With a background in acting and directing from German film institutions, she has also created award-nominated short films.

KimStim plans to release the film in theaters in spring 2027. Produced by Wim Wenders and Léa Germain among others, 'I’ll Be Gone in June' features performances from Naomi Cosma and David Flores. Ian Stimler, co-president of KimStim, praised the film for its intimate exploration of human emotion amidst collective trauma.
