Celebrating Ocean Wonders: Finalists in Photography Contest Spotlight Vital Issues

By Editor • August 13, 2026 • 1 min read

The annual Ocean Photographer of the Year contest, organized by Oceanographic magazine and Blancpain, showcases breathtaking and poignant images that underline the critical state of our oceans. Covering about 70% of the Earth, these vast waters are essential for both ecological balance and human livelihood.

This year’s finalists, including talents like Tamara Stubbs and Leighton Lum, tackle themes ranging from adventure to conservation. The Conservation category is particularly striking, divided into Hope and Impact, aiming to raise awareness about the pressing challenges our oceans face, from climate change to industrial threats.

Will Harrison, the contest's founder, emphasizes the importance of these visual narratives. He states, "These photographs don’t just capture what’s beneath the surface; they surface the stories our planet most needs us to hear." The winners will be revealed in September, and the full gallery of finalists can be explored online and on Instagram.
