China Vows to Protect Its Interests Amidst US Sanctions on Iran

China has firmly declared its intent to protect its interests following the United States' announcement of new sanctions aimed at Iran, a key economic partner. At a press briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian criticized Washington's pressure tactics, insisting on the need for an end to unilateral sanctions.

Lin emphasized that cooperation between China and Iran operates within international law and should remain uninterrupted. He reiterated China's longstanding opposition to illegal sanctions, stating, "China will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard its own rights and interests." This statement comes amid heightened tensions, as the US continues its economic campaign against Iran, which has been ongoing for nearly six months.

Despite threats from the US targeting Chinese banks and entities, analysts suggest that actual sanctions may face significant obstacles. Trita Parsi, from the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, noted that moving against China could be diplomatically sensitive, especially with a high-profile meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US officials on the horizon.

Moreover, the president of the Iran-China Chamber of Commerce, Majidreza Hariri, condemned US actions, framing them as part of a broader economic war against Iran. He warned that such policies have transformed economic targets into potential military ones, complicating the geopolitical landscape further.
