In a recent episode of the "Daily Variety" podcast, Chris Carter, the visionary behind "The X-Files," shared insights into the creation of a new director’s cut for his 2008 film, "The X-Files: I Want to Believe." This reimagined version, titled "The X-Files: I Want to Believe: Vrach Frankenshteyn," premiered on August 14 on Hulu and Disney+ outside the U.S.
Carter explained that his cut is actually more concise than the original 144-minute film, as he aims to present the vision he initially had. He highlighted the support from 20th Century Studios executive Steve Asbell, who prompted the idea of revisiting the film. "I always felt like people didn’t see the movie I intended to make," Carter remarked.
Reflecting on the challenges of the original release, he recalled the intense pressure to achieve a PG-13 rating, which led to significant edits. "The movie you’re seeing is, by and large, the movie that my partner Frank Spotnitz and I set out to make," Carter concluded, emphasizing their commitment to crafting a thrilling experience.
