Chris Sussman Returns to the BBC as Director of Comedy

Chris Sussman, who previously held significant roles at Netflix U.K. and BBC Studios, has been appointed as the BBC's new director of comedy. He takes over from Jon Petrie, who departed in June for a creative director position at Hat Trick Productions.

Sussman, reporting to chief content officer Kate Phillips, will oversee the BBC's comedy commissioning team and its extensive portfolio of original British scripted comedies. His responsibilities will include both current series such as 'Ludwig' and 'Amandaland,' as well as upcoming projects like 'Bill's Included' and 'Reluctant Vampire.'

Reflecting on his new role, Sussman expressed excitement about contributing to a legacy he has cherished since childhood, stating, "What a dream job!" Phillips commended Sussman’s experience, emphasizing his capabilities to lead the BBC into a promising comedic future. Sussman is set to commence his new position next month, with Emma Lawson serving as acting director in the meantime.
