Cinemark Joins Calls for Quick Resolution on Paramount Merger

By Editor • August 18, 2026 • 1 min read

Cinemark, one of the leading theater chains, is advocating for a swift resolution regarding the proposed merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. In a recent statement, the company emphasized the need for an "expedited resolution" as legal proceedings loom, with a trial date set for March 2027 involving California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Paramount's David Ellison.

The theatrical industry is currently witnessing a resurgence, with box office performance heading towards its best results in seven years, buoyed by a strong summer lineup and increased consumer engagement. Cinemark acknowledged that the health of the industry relies on a sound ecosystem of studios and exhibitors.

The merger promises to deliver at least 30 films annually, alongside commitments for theatrical windows of 45 days to premium video on demand (PVOD) and 90 days to subscription video on demand (SVOD). Paramount has expressed a willingness to formalize these pledges, which aligns with Cinemark's long-standing support for media consolidation that enhances film quality and marketing efforts.
