CNN Issues Apology for Dolly Parton Photo Mix-Up

By Editor • August 27, 2026 • 1 min read

CNN has formally apologized after mistakenly airing a photo of tribute artist Kelly Vohnn during its coverage of country star Dolly Parton's death. The error occurred in a montage aired on Laura Coates Live shortly after Parton's passing on Tuesday due to cancer.

The network's apology, which was reported by the New York Post, expressed regret to both Parton’s family and Vohnn, acknowledging the mix-up amid an extensive remembrance of Parton’s illustrious career.

Vohnn, 58, revealed that she was shocked to receive messages from friends about her unexpected appearance on CNN. "I was already heartbroken at losing Dolly… but then to see these images of me on screen was just weird," she commented. She criticized CNN for the oversight and emphasized that she never intended to impersonate Parton. In a statement on Instagram, Vohnn stressed the need for better diligence in media reporting to avoid spreading misinformation.
