Digital Product Passport Pilot Launches to Boost Denim Supply Chain Efficiency

A recent initiative aims to revolutionize the denim supply chain by integrating digital product passport (DPP) data directly into fabric production. Launched by Denim Deal, World Collective, and Green Story, this pilot project is currently operational with three fabrics from Indian manufacturer Bhaskar Savitt Industries.
The DPP pilot addresses inefficiencies in supply chain data sharing, allowing suppliers to embed their product information at the fabric level. This approach eliminates the need for repetitive data submissions to multiple brands, streamlining processes significantly. Akhil Sivanandan, CEO of Green Story, emphasized the need for a shift in how DPPs are utilized, stating, “The real opportunity is to create reusable data building blocks across the supply chain.”
This collaboration not only aims to enhance data accessibility but also fosters consumer engagement and transparency in the denim sector. The pilot's fabrics—Renewed-Eco, Earthbound-Eco, and Bluecanopy-Eco—feature an interactive DPP widget on their product pages, offering insights into sustainability metrics and supplier details.
As manufacturers prepare for potential regulatory changes, this pilot provides a competitive edge for early adopters. Jeanine Ballone, co-founder of World Collective, noted that suppliers equipped with comprehensive DPP data can better showcase their capabilities. The initiative is poised to expand, with discussions underway to include more textile producers. World Collective plans to engage Turkish denim suppliers at Texhibition Istanbul in September, further promoting DPP adoption in the region.
