Doreme: Where Fashion’s Essentials Inspire Architectural Design

Doreme, a newly designed workspace and showroom, eloquently bridges the gap between fashion production and architectural innovation. Located in Kolkata and crafted by Spaces and Design under the leadership of Pooja Bihani, this 3,600-square-foot facility transforms a former warehouse into a vibrant homage to garment-making.

Without the typical fashion design symbols, Doreme reveals its inspiration through subtle design elements such as neon lacing, buttons as furniture accents, and fabric canopies. The layout emphasizes an open concept, allowing for fluid movement and collaboration, where every corner serves as a stage for creativity.

A striking feature is the nearly twenty-foot-long communal table, which fosters a sense of unity among employees as they engage in the design process. Textiles play a key role in delineating spaces; layered curtains replace walls, maintaining visibility while guiding foot traffic. This thoughtful integration allows everyday activities to enrich the spatial experience.

The design's playful color palette incorporates vibrant hues of green, pink, yellow, and orange, harmonizing with the more subdued whites and greys of the structure. Hidden elements of garment production, such as transparent furniture showcasing buttons and zippers, elevate the workspace's visual identity, turning backstage materials into conversation starters.

Flexibility is paramount; movable display units adapt as collections change, reflecting Doreme’s dual identity as both a workspace and a showroom.
