Emma Thompson's Nanny McPhee Musical Set for West End Debut in 2027

Emma Thompson is bringing the beloved character Nanny McPhee to the stage in a new musical adaptation, slated to premiere in London's West End during the summer of 2027. This marks Nanny McPhee's first theatrical portrayal, following her appearances in two successful films that grossed $216 million worldwide.
The musical draws inspiration from both the films and the original Nurse Matilda stories by Christianna Brand and Edward Ardizzone. It will depict the magical governess as she arrives to help the chaotic Brown family.
Thompson, who wrote the original films, will collaborate with Gary Clark on music and lyrics, while Katy Rudd directs. Renowned designer Rob Howell will create the set and costumes, with choreography by Ellen Kane. Excited about the project, Thompson expressed her joy in finally seeing Nanny McPhee take to the stage, calling the experience "an unforgettable journey of a lifetime."
