Explosion Claims Life of Russian Officer in St. Petersburg

A tragic incident occurred on August 27, when an improvised explosive device detonated inside a vehicle on Kolpinskoye Highway, St. Petersburg.
The explosion killed a lieutenant colonel and severely injured his wife, both of whom were in the car at the time. Witnesses reported that the blast, which happened around 10 a.m. near a Magnit store, was powerful enough to sever both of their legs.
This neighborhood, known for housing developments for military personnel, was previously visited by Vladimir Putin in 2010 during an inspection of new apartments for service members.
