At the Abu Dhabi Royal Equestrian Arts (ADREA), a striking new dining experience is taking shape with the opening of Falwa restaurant, designed by Dubai's 4SPACE for Michelin-starred Emirati chef Faisal Alharmoodi. This 450 sqm venue uniquely fuses modern gastronomy with the UAE's rich equestrian traditions, moving beyond traditional decor to capture the essence of Arabian horses through innovative architectural design.
The name 'Falwa' refers to a young mare post-weaning, symbolizing elegance and vitality. Instead of relying on familiar equestrian imagery, the design team focused on the physical qualities of horses, such as their grace and strength. This concept is subtly reflected in the space's dusty-white mineral plaster walls, reminiscent of the legendary Rabdan, the horse of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Upon entering, guests are greeted by an expansive main dining area where conventional boundaries fade. The flowing lines of walls and ceilings echo anatomical movement, while organic portals provide dynamic views throughout the space. A striking centerpiece, inspired by palm trees, features a warm metallic structure under a woven canopy, mirroring the desert gathering experience.
4SPACE expertly utilizes materials to create a tactile environment. From polished Breccia Aurora marble to custom walnut timber tables, each element is carefully chosen to balance warmth with elegance. The restaurant's lighting system, complete with brown textile straps and glowing glass spheres, mimics the rhythm of horse reins, enhancing the overall atmosphere.
Behind the seamless design lies sophisticated engineering, utilizing advanced 3D modeling to achieve a cohesive and uninterrupted aesthetic. With hidden technical systems and a focus on spatial harmony, Falwa restaurant stands as a modern ode to Arabian equestrian legacy.
