Federal Court Dismisses Trump Administration's Lawsuit Against Harvard

By Editor • August 13, 2026 • 1 min read

A federal court has dismissed a lawsuit from the Trump administration targeting Harvard University over allegations of anti-Semitism during pro-Palestinian demonstrations on campus.

Judge Richard Stearns ruled that the government failed to establish that Harvard violated civil rights laws prohibiting discrimination based on race and nationality. The lawsuit claimed that university officials ignored anti-Semitic behavior, allowing protests detrimental to Jewish and Israeli students.

Stearns characterized the instances cited by the Trump administration as 'too isolated and episodic' to support claims of civil rights violations. This ruling marks a setback for the Trump administration, which has criticized universities for allegedly endorsing pro-Palestinian movements amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Previously, the Trump administration had frozen billions in funding for Harvard, asserting it tolerated anti-Semitism, but a federal judge deemed this action largely illegal.
