Final Victim of Broad Peak Avalanche Identified as Sarah Mallory Geis

Search and rescue teams have successfully recovered the body of Sarah Mallory Geis, the last of ten climbers missing after a devastating avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan.
The 39-year-old American mountaineer was found on August 21, nearly three weeks after the tragedy, which occurred on July 30. Geis's body was located by volunteer crews, as confirmed by Major General Irfan Arshad Khan of the Alpine Club of Pakistan.
Initially reported recovered shortly after the avalanche, only part of Geis’s body was found at that time. Her family, particularly her father George Geis, expressed their desire to bring her home following the tragic loss. The body of another climber, Nawang Thendu Sherpa, remains on the mountain due to hazardous conditions.
The avalanche struck multiple teams at around 9 A.M. at a high altitude, marking one of the deadliest incidents in recent mountaineering history, reminiscent of the 2015 earthquake-triggered tragedy at Mount Everest Base Camp.
