Firefox Enhances Smart Window with New Features for Browsing Efficiency

Firefox is set to elevate its Smart Window feature, previously known as AI Window, with a series of enhancements aimed at improving the user experience. This AI-driven browsing assistant allows users to engage in chat-based queries about their current web pages or general questions, mirroring interactions with platforms like ChatGPT.

On Tuesday, Mozilla announced three new functionalities for Smart Window that are now available to beta testers. First, users can seamlessly search for information without leaving their current page, thanks to a collaboration with Exa. This feature allows users to look up information directly in the Smart Window, eliminating the need to switch to a new search results page.

Another notable addition is the automatic tab grouping feature, which organizes similar tabs together. While other browsers like Chrome have offered this for a while, it's a new capability for Firefox, which previously required users to manually group tabs.

Additionally, Smart Window will now provide visual previews of pages in a user's browsing history, making it easier to locate previously visited sites without sifting through text-based URLs. Mozilla aims for Smart Window to be more than just a chatbot; the feature will also help users recall their recent browsing activities, allowing them to revisit previous sessions with ease.

In the future, users can expect Smart Window to track their browsing journeys, similar to features found in other AI tools. Mozilla is also developing an AI form-filler to streamline online tasks, although users have the option to disable all AI features at any time, catering to those who prefer a straightforward browsing experience.
