Frozen Berries Recall Upgraded to Class I Due to E. Coli Risk

A recent recall of frozen berries sold at Publix has escalated to a Class I warning from the FDA, indicating a serious health risk due to potential E. coli contamination.
The recall, initially announced on June 25, involved 10-ounce packages of Greenwise Organic Whole Blueberries and Mixed Berries with expiration dates before February 9, 2028. On July 29, the recall expanded to include larger 48-ounce bags of the same products.
The FDA classifies Class I recalls as situations where exposure to the product could lead to severe health consequences or even death. This classification takes into account various factors, including past illnesses and the vulnerability of specific populations, like children and the elderly.
The affected frozen berries were distributed across several states, including Florida, Georgia, and Virginia. Consumers who may have purchased these products are advised not to consume them and to either dispose of them or return them to Publix for a full refund. Symptoms of E. coli infection can range from stomach cramps to severe diarrhea, and those experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention if conditions persist.
