German Film 'Oasis' Explores Adolescent Turmoil and Violence Ahead of Venice Premiere

By Editor • August 17, 2026 • 1 min read

The upcoming film 'Oasis' (Oase), directed by Jannis Lenz, dives deep into the complexities of adolescent life, showcasing themes of violence, identity, and belonging. Set to premiere on September 6 in the Horizons section of the Venice Film Festival, this debut feature presents a stark contrast to another film titled 'Oasis' at the festival, which documents a reunion tour of the iconic band Oasis.

'Oasis' tells the story of a school overwhelmed by violence after a viral video of a student threatening classmates goes public. In response, three outcasts escape to a nearby forest, where their interactions evolve into a ritualistic form of play that starts to blur the lines of their identities and traumas.

The film features a talented cast, including rising stars Florian Geißelmann, Anton Petzold, and Mathilda Smidt, alongside seasoned actor Godehard Giese. Lenz crafted the screenplay with Alexander Dirninger, who also serves as director of photography. The film is produced by Zeitgeist Filmproduktion, with an anticipated theatrical release in Germany set for February 2027.
