Global Defense Bank Faces Funding Challenges Ahead of Launch

By Editor • August 31, 2026 • 1 min read

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is championing the creation of a new global Defense, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB) designed to assist allies in rearming. The DSRB aims to gather €100 billion ($116 billion), providing low-cost loans to governments and contractors for defense initiatives.

Currently backed by Canada and several nations including Albania, Belgium, and Ukraine, the DSRB has reportedly secured €5 billion in commitments as of August. However, the absence of support from major economies like Germany and Britain raises concerns about achieving the desired triple-A credit rating necessary for competitive funding costs.
