HBO Max Unveils 12 European Writers for Script Engine Program

HBO Max, alongside Warner Bros. Discovery’s talent development arm, has announced the selection of 12 European writers for its Script Engine Program. This initiative, designed to enhance screenwriting skills, will be led by renowned producer Frank Spotnitz, known for his work on iconic series like The X-Files.
The program, spanning four months, focuses on helping writers create original series concepts rooted in their local cultures, culminating in pitches to HBO Max executives in November. Spotnitz emphasized the rising global appetite for unique European narratives, stating, “European storytelling has never been in greater demand.”
The selected writers hail from France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, including talents like Tolula Dada and Tunde Aladese. Throughout the program, participants will engage in workshops and masterclasses, gaining insights from industry experts and HBO Max market advisors tailored to their local contexts.
