Massive Egg Recall Tied to Salmonella Outbreak Affects 1.6 Million Dozen Eggs

A significant egg recall has escalated to a class I designation by the FDA, affecting nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs from Texas. This comes amid a troubling salmonella outbreak that has sickened close to 100 individuals across 17 states.
The FDA's warning, issued on August 12, highlights serious health risks associated with the contaminated eggs, which have been linked to 98 reported illnesses, including 26 hospitalizations, from November 2025 to June 2026. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.
Midwest Poultry Services identified the contamination through rigorous monitoring and ceased distribution of fresh eggs from its Texas farms as of July 22. However, the recalled eggs remain in circulation, with sell-by dates extending to August 17.
These eggs were distributed to various states, including Arkansas, Louisiana, and New Mexico, and were sold at major retailers such as Kroger and Brookshire Grocery. Consumers are urged to return any recalled eggs for a refund, as the FDA continues to address food safety concerns amid a series of health crises.
