Houthis Target Saudi Naval Vessels in Red Sea Missile Strike

The Houthi movement, aligned with Iran, has claimed responsibility for a missile strike on what they described as a Saudi military ship and four escort vessels off the coast of Mocha, Yemen. This announcement was made by military spokesperson Yahya Saree via Telegram on August 17, 2026.
Although the Houthis reported the attack, there has been no confirmation from Saudi officials. This incident follows a previous assault last week on a ship in the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which resulted in the deaths of four crew members, according to Yemen's Transport Ministry.
In July, the Houthis declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea, citing a siege on Yemen, a claim that Riyadh has vehemently denied. Reports suggest that the vessel targeted in the recent attack had been inactive for over a year.
