Incheon International Airport Set to Become World’s Busiest by 2026

By Editor • August 21, 2026 • 1 min read

In a notable shift in global aviation, Incheon International Airport in South Korea is poised to surpass Dubai International Airport as the world’s busiest airport for international passengers by 2026. This development marks the end of Dubai's 12-year dominance, according to preliminary data from Airports Council International (ACI).

During the first half of 2026, Incheon welcomed 38.4 million international travelers, reflecting an 18% increase in transfer passengers. This surge is attributed to the airport’s enhanced capacity following its expansion in 2024 and its strategic position as a global transit hub.

Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport, which handled 95.2 million international passengers in 2025, has seen its numbers plummet due to recent geopolitical tensions affecting flight routes. The airport's figures dipped significantly, with an average of 2.5 million passengers in March 2026.

Additionally, London Heathrow is projected to take the second spot with 37.79 million passengers, while Singapore Changi follows closely with 34.53 million. As the aviation landscape evolves, these changes underscore the impact of airport expansions, travel trends, and geopolitical developments on global passenger traffic.
