Indonesia's President Promises Action Against Corporate Land-Burners Amid Toxic Haze Crisis

In the wake of devastating forest fires that are engulfing parts of Indonesia and causing hazardous haze to drift into neighboring Malaysia, President Prabowo Subianto has made a strong commitment to hold corporations accountable for their role in these environmental disasters.

Speaking to reporters in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, on Saturday, Prabowo emphasized that the government would take decisive measures against any corporate entities found culpable. “We will go after them if they are proven guilty. We will penalise them according to the law,” he stated, signaling a renewed effort to tackle the persistent issue of land burning.

This pledge comes as Indonesia grapples with the ongoing challenge of forest fires, which have long been a source of air pollution and environmental degradation, prompting questions about the effectiveness of government oversight and corporate responsibility.
