French Ambassador Under Scrutiny for Misconduct in Central African Republic

By Editor • August 13, 2026 • 1 min read

France is investigating allegations of misconduct against Bruno Foucher, its ambassador to the Central African Republic (CAR). Reports indicate he hosted around 30 women at his official residence, raising security alarms.

The inquiry follows a significant dip in relations between France and CAR, compounded by Russia's growing influence in the region. The French weekly Le Canard enchaîné revealed that Foucher, aged 65, had sexual relations with two of the young visitors, some of whom reportedly stayed overnight.

The French foreign ministry initiated an administrative investigation in early 2026, leading to ongoing disciplinary actions against Foucher, who has held the ambassadorial post since 2023. An April inspection prompted this development, as officials noted frequent visits to the residence.
