Investigation Underway After Small Plane Collides with Police Helicopter in Pennsylvania

By Editor • August 20, 2026 • 1 min read

Authorities are delving into the circumstances surrounding a tragic midair collision that occurred on Wednesday at a rural airport in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. A small Cessna 150 aircraft crashed into a hovering Pennsylvania State Police helicopter, resulting in the death of the plane's pilot and injuries to two state troopers.

Aaron McCarter, the investigator-in-charge with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), stated that there is no immediate explanation for the incident, which has drawn attention due to dramatic footage circulating online. "We want to understand why it happened," he noted.

The crash involved the Cessna 150, which was attempting to land when it veered off course and struck the rear of the Bell 407 helicopter, which was conducting a training exercise. The pilot of the small plane, identified as 57-year-old Paul William Sokoloski, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both pilots of the helicopter, Cpl. Bryce Corman and Trooper Jason Mills, were airlifted to a hospital, with Corman already discharged and Mills reported to be recovering well. McCarter indicated that while both pilots were flight instructors and communication had been established, the exact cause of the Cessna's unusual flight path remains unclear.

The investigation will include a thorough analysis of the wreckage, pilot actions, and environmental factors, as officials seek to provide clarity on this devastating event.
