Japan Proposes Comprehensive Cybersecurity Measures for Critical Infrastructure
By Editor • August 23, 2026 • 1 min read
The Japanese government has unveiled draft guidelines comprising 150 recommendations aimed at bolstering cybersecurity across essential sectors. The guidelines stress that even isolated networks are vulnerable to cyber threats, particularly following a surge in ransomware incidents.
To mitigate risks, the draft encourages businesses in 16 critical areas, including finance, railways, and electricity, to secure cybersecurity insurance and enhance their recovery strategies in case of attacks. It highlights the importance of treating cybersecurity as a vital management concern, cautioning against complacency.
The government will gather public feedback on the draft until Wednesday, with plans for a final version to be released by the end of September. Additionally, it addresses the necessity of adopting advanced defense mechanisms, including post-quantum cryptography, by 2035, and adapting to threats posed by evolving AI technologies.
