Japan's Centrist Opposition Merger Efforts Fail

By Editor • August 31, 2026 • 1 min read

Attempts to merge Japan's centrist opposition parties have fallen apart, with Komeito-affiliated lawmakers in the Centrist Reform Alliance (CRA) opting against a merger. This decision follows the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan's (CDP) recent abandonment of similar plans.

Following a meeting on Monday, CRA leader Junya Ogawa expressed a commitment to centrist politics, suggesting a new framework for collaboration among centrist forces. "Our resolve to defend centrist politics has not weakened," he stated.
