Japanese Lawmakers Set to Visit China Amid Strained Relations

By Editor • August 19, 2026 • 1 min read

A group of Japanese lawmakers will travel to China from Monday until August 27, responding to an invitation from the Chinese Communist Party’s International Department.

Notable members include Gaku Hashimoto from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and Shinichi Isa from the Centrist Reform Alliance, a key opposition party.

This marks the first meeting between Japanese lawmakers and a Chinese Communist Party official since November, when tensions escalated due to comments from Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding Taiwan.
