Key Leaders Gather for SCO Summit in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK: This Monday, Kyrgyzstan will host a significant two-day summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), marking its 25th anniversary. Prominent leaders, including Russia's Vladimir Putin and China's Xi Jinping, will be in attendance, alongside heads of state from Pakistan, Iran, and India.

The summit will be chaired by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and aims to foster regional cooperation as a counterbalance to Western influence. Key figures, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, are expected to participate in discussions.

Kremlin spokesperson Yuri Ushakov indicated that Putin will engage in separate bilateral meetings with multiple leaders. The backdrop of this gathering is marked by ongoing conflicts, such as the war in Ukraine and tensions between the U.S. and Iran, highlighting the geopolitical significance of the SCO.
