Since the onset of the full-scale war, approximately 4,000 of Kyiv's 12,000 apartment buildings have suffered damage from Russian strikes, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
The financial toll on the city’s budget is staggering, with each attack costing around half a billion hryvnias, equivalent to $11.2 million. Klitschko noted that the frequency of assaults has escalated, with the city experiencing missile and drone attacks nearly twice weekly.
On August 20, a massive strike resulted in 15 fatalities and numerous injuries, prompting a day of mourning in the capital. While Kyiv is working to establish mobile shelters and build bomb shelters, the need for adequate protection remains critical as winter approaches.
