Pierre Picavet, the head of a prominent LGBTQ rights organization in France, was hospitalized following a brutal attack in the Marais district of Paris. The incident occurred late Saturday night as Picavet, a police officer and president of FLAG!, exited a bar, where he was assaulted with a bottle, resulting in serious injuries including internal bleeding.
Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire condemned the "despicable homophobic attack," emphasizing that the city will not tolerate hatred. The assailant, who has been taken into custody, was reportedly intoxicated and had no prior criminal record. Prosecutors noted that the attacker hurled a homophobic slur at Picavet, who identified himself as a police officer in an effort to deter the assault.
The organization STOP Homophobie expressed outrage, reiterating the ongoing threat of anti-LGBT+ violence in society. They shared images of Picavet’s injuries, urging for stronger action against such acts of hate.
