Photographer Luca Battaglia explores the enchanting world of carousels through his captivating series, "Ticket non remboursable." His work emphasizes the nostalgia and memory associated with these iconic amusement rides found in city squares and parks across Europe.
Originating from a medieval jousting tradition, carousels have evolved into intricate displays of craftsmanship. Battaglia recalls his childhood experiences with a beloved carousel in Milan that has since vanished, inspiring his artistic vision. “I photograph them using long exposures, trying to move away from their literal appearance and reveal something more abstract,” he explains.
Employing a neutral density filter, Battaglia captures the movement of the carousels in long exposures, transforming them into dreamlike images. The result is a mesmerizing interplay of light and form that evokes a sense of timelessness, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy.
